The construction of Collingwood Park State Secondary College was a large-scale project completed and ready for student enrolment in January 2025. By utilising prefabricated light gauge steel (LGS) framing, the project achieved significant time and cost savings despite challenging terrain and weather.

- Accelerated Timeline:Replacing traditional structural steel and ’stick-build’ methods with prefabricated LGS solutions reduced the overall construction schedule by 4–6 weeks.
- Design Versatility:The design flexibility of steel was showcased in the student lecture hall, where LGS was used for the tiered seating substructure instead of building the originally designed labour-intensive concrete floor structure.
- Environmental Integration:The design utilised a ’stepped‘ building approach to accommodate a 25-30 metre gradient, protecting local vegetation and minimising the school's physical footprint.

- Design:Designed by Group GSA, the 12,000m² campus includes 11 buildings catering to 1,200 students, featuring science labs, industrial training spaces, and arts studios.
- Strategic Partnership:BADGE Constructions engaged HYTEK as a ’one-stop-shop’ to handle engineering, design, fabrication, and installation, which was pivotal in securing and delivering the contract.
- Overcoming Complexity:The project required over 200 tonnes of LGS framing made from TRUECORE® steel. HYTEK managed a complex simultaneous workflow, installing roof trusses on one building while installing infill wall framing on another building and ensuring the factory was prefabricating frames and trusses ready for the next phase of the build.
- Rapid Completion:Despite significant wet weather and a necessary change in building sequences, the entire college was completed in 12 months, with the administration building finished in only nine months – which according to the architect was an outstanding effort and enabled the new School Principal and staff to start the enrolment process earlier than expected.
