Australia To Renominate for IMO Council
The Australian Government has marked World Maritime Day by announcing it will seek another two-year term on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council. As a founding member of the IMO, Australia has helped shape international maritime standards for almost 75 years.
Australia is nominating for re-election to ‘Category B’ of the IMO Council, which is comprised of states with the largest interest in international seaborne trade. Re-election will allow Australia to continue bringing practical expertise, a consensus-building approach and a regional voice to decisions that shape global maritime safety, environmental protection, international trade and sustainable shipping.

Jaimi Harrison named Female Emerging Leader at 2026 AfPA Victorian Industry Awards
NTRO Senior Scientist Jaimi Harrison has won the Female Emerging Leader Award at the 2026 AfPA Victorian Industry Awards.
The Emerging Leader Award recognises individuals in the early stages of their careers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, delivered meaningful improvements within their organisation, actively contributed to the flexible pavement industry, and achieved measurable outcomes that extend beyond their day-to-day role.

Why the best engineering careers aren’t built alone
When engineers think about career development, there can often be a focus on building technical skills, gaining experience and keeping up with industry trends. But there’s another factor that can have a significant impact on career success: your professional network.
For Emerging Professional Engineer of the Year winner Patrick Puddefoot MIEAust, building a professional network played an important role in his career journey. After moving from regional Queensland to Sydney following university, he found that Engineers Australia helped him connect with the broader engineering community.
Patrick credits Engineers Australia’s conferences, webinars, CPD events and networking opportunities with helping him establish himself in a new city and profession.
